More Health Less Care — 2010 in Review
It’s the end of another year, and I’m sure you’ve noticed, as I have, the universal media practice of the “Year In Review” article. Or sometimes it’s the “Best of…” show like I’ve been hearing on National Public Radio (it seems like all week.)
Why should we be any different – 2010 has been an amazing first year for More Health Less Care! Let’s take a look back at our journey.
January
- Dr. Pete says goodbye to his friends at Health First Health Plans, good riddance to the traditional healthcare system, and turns Wellness Evangelist. Within days of his announcement many in the wellness community rally to support him. [You know who you are, and I am very grateful for your support. — PJW]
February
- The More Health Less Care Alliance (The Alliance) is conceived over coffee at a beachside café. Dr. Pete, Coach Linda Cobb and Wellness Entrepreneur Bill Ranieri team up to register The Alliance with the State of Florida and articulate its mission as “empowering Americans to well-being.”
- Dr. Pete goes live on Facebook and Twitter.
March
- The Alliance’s 10 Core Beliefs and Professional Promise are finalized.
- A focus group of 25 coaches enthusiastically endorse moving forward with building The Alliance nationwide.
- Design work begins on The Alliance web site.
April
- The book, “More Health Less Care,” is published.
- Dr. Pete speaks to several insurance industry and healthcare groups on the concepts of more health and less care.
- Al Neuharth, Founder of “USA Today” and “Florida Today” endorses the work as “…the most practical book I have ever read about personal health care.”
May
- The Alliance joins the local Chamber of Commerce.
- Libraries across the United States bring the book, “More Health Less Care,” to their patrons.
June
- Dr. Pete speaks as the invited headliner at the Florida Anti-Aging Expo at Florida Tech.
- The book “More Health Less Care” sells out first printing.
July
- The book “More Health Less Care” and Dr. Pete receive the endorsement of Robert Baldwin, President of Christian Care Ministry.
- Dr. Pete quoted in “Women’s Health” magazine on “surviving your doctor visit.”
- The International Coach Federation adds the book “More Health Less Care” to its virtual bookstore of recommended books on Life/Personal Coaching.
- Wellness coaches from England and New Zealand endorse the concepts of the book.
August
- Pastor Hoyt Byrum discovers “More Health Less Care” and invites Dr. Pete to co-teach a course based on the work at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
- Dr. Pete introduces his video blog.
September
- The More Health Less Care Alliance opens for business with public press conference and ribbon cutting.
- The Alliance hires its first non-executive employee, Cliff Fontenot. Cliff is dedicated to customer and technical support.
October
- The Alliance launches the twice-weekly More Health Less Care talk radio show.
- Dr. Pete is invited to be guest blogger on KevinMD.com, social media’s leading physician voice.
- Dr. Pete travels to Fort Worth to meet with coaches at the International Coach Federation annual meeting.
- America’s Health Insurance Plans picks up on Dr. Pete’s call for more health and less care and pushes it to its members and subscribers.
November
- The More Health Less Care Alliance web site comes on line. Michael Edwards joins as the first professional member.
- The Brevard County government endorses More Health Less Care and asks Dr. Pete to speak to its employees.
- Over 200 wellness coaches across the United States evaluate the book “More Health Less Care” as a coaching tool for clients wishing to be healthy.
- The book “More Health Less Care” sells out second printing.
- Laura Ingraham, Fox News contributor and frequent host of The O’Reilly Factor, turns to Dr. Pete for practical advice on healthy holiday eating.
December
- More Health Less Care magazine debuts to widespread positive review.
- The Alliance goes live on Facebook and Twitter.
So, it truly has been an amazing year! I want to thank all of you who have helped and supported me, Linda, Bill, the Alliance, and the concept that Americans can have more health and less care. As we enter 2011, we’re excited about where we’re going from here. We plan to grow and grow quickly.
